I got this drum set for my 5 year old. The assembly was a bit challenging, even with the instructional DVD. The finished product is very cute but rather flimsy & unstable--in particular the high-hat, stool, and toms. It is a lot of fun for a kid to bang on, but it is more a toy than an instrument. I would not recommend it for older children (8+) who want to learn to play an actual drum set.
